Central Maine Team Penning Association (CMTPA) was established on November 26, 1995, by a group of equestrians dedicated to increasing the popularity of this challenging and fast-growing sport. Membership and participation continue to grow, with membership from Eliot to Houlton and East Port to Andover. The club holds numerous competitions at The OK Corral, in Leeds, Maine, as well as competitions at the Skowhegan Fair, Farmington Fair, Windsor Fair, and the Topsham Fair. Team penning often draws a big crowd at the fairs, with the bleachers packed and spectators standing at the rail watching. Central Maine Team Penning has drawn riders from Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Canada, Connecticut, and Maine. Due to increased popularity, CMTPA will hold several United States Team Penning affiliated events beginning in 2007, and will also add the popular Ranch Sorting events to the schedule.
